Governance can dictate the success of your association, which is why we emphasise the importance of understanding what good governance and leadership looks like.
Call for Nominations as a Board Director - John Kilgour (in conjunction with FPA Australia)
The AES Association Executives Tool Kit has been developed for use by leaders of not-for-profit associations within Australia. It covers all aspects of managing an association and is designed to be used by Boards, committees and staff as a resource to assist them in the growth and development of their association. It includes detailed information on the various aspects of strategic planning, including how to develop a mission statement, vision, goals, objectives and more.
Most Associations and NFP organisations rely on their members to govern their organisation. Many appointed to the Board have limited knowledge or training, so high-performing associations ensure their new Board members are fully inducted before attending their first Board meeting.
Boards and management of associations have very different roles, and these must be clearly defined to ensure that everyone is completing their responsibilities. When the Board and the CEO work effectively, operations run more smoothly.
According to the latest figures from the ATO, there are 660,000 not-for-profit organisations in Australia, including registered charities,
incorporated associations, and other entities.
The not-for-profit sector employs over 2 million people, and most organisations are governed by volunteer boards. Their success relies on
the skills, knowledge, and experience of the appointed board or committee members.
