The sector employs 8% of the national workforce and contributes $15 billion to the economy, yet there is very little documentation of best practice within these associations. For this reason, AES has developed several programs to help evaluate and assess the performance of your organisation.

Ask  five directors how their association is performing and you'll get five different answers. One says the strategic plan is on track. Another isn't sure where to find it. The CEO sees problems the Board doesn't, and the Board worries about things the CEO has already fixed. Meanwhile roles blur, revenue leans too heavily on one stream, and competitors move into your space.

We start with our Best Practice Self-Assessment. It measures your organisation across ten areas of excellence and benchmarks the results against more than 800 Australian associations. No one else in the sector holds that dataset. From there we review how your structure, people, revenue and market and membership value  position actually work, then turn the findings into a strategy your Board owns and your executive can deliver.

We work only with associations and not-for-profits. Our consultants are former association chief executives and directors, and we run the back office of a dozen associations ourselves. We have no product to sell you on the back of the review, so our recommendations follow the evidence.
