About Us

The National Self-Employment Association (NS-EA) is the peak body representing providers of Self-Employment Assistance across Australia. We support over 8,000 businesses through our members, championing small and micro-business success.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead our organisation into its next stage of growth. This is a rare opportunity to influence policy, support members, and represent the sector at the highest levels.

The Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and deliver on the Association’s vision and goals.
  • Oversee operations, governance, financial management, and compliance.
  • Act as the primary liaison with government (including DEWR and Ministerial offices), regulators, industry peak bodies, and sponsors.
  • Support and advise the voluntary Board, ensuring effective governance processes.
  • Manage membership records, engagement, and communications.
  • Lead digital marketing, public relations, media, and event promotion.
  • Oversee sponsorship arrangements and the annual NS-EA Awards.
  • Prepare consultation responses, submissions, and discussion papers in collaboration with members and the Board.

This part-time role is flexible, averaging 5 days per fortnight. The CEO operates primarily from a home office, supported by NS-EA resources, with some interstate travel required for board meetings, planning sessions, and events.

About You

We’re looking for a leader who brings:

  • Minimum 3 years’ senior leadership experience, preferably in the small or micro-business or not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong financial management capability (budgeting, reporting, Xero, reconciliations).
  • Excellent governance knowledge and experience supporting a Board.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to represent at ministerial and departmental levels.
  • High-level communication skills – written, verbal, and digital.
  • Demonstrated innovation, adaptability, and problem-solving ability.
  • Competency in digital marketing and using modern business technologies.
