Chief Executive Officer - Stroke Recovery Association

The Chief Executive Officer will lead a small talented and committed team to deliver support to a network of Stroke Recovery Clubs/groups and choirs throughout NSW, provide education, advocacy, and member services across diverse stakeholder groups.

The CEO will provide effective, hands-on leadership to implement SRA's strategic plan, drive financial sustainability, and oversee day to day operations. The CEO will bring high emotional intelligence and will drive organisational growth and financial sustainability through a culture of inclusivity, excellence and organisational accountability.

We are seeking someone with exceptional stakeholder engagement skills who can elevate SRA's profile across health, disability and government organisations, building collaborative relationships that advance members' interests.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Stroke Recovery Association
  • Guide change processes that enhance relevance, diversity and impact across all SRA activities in line with member expectations and funding priorities
  • Lead SRA’s systemic advocacy agenda across state and federal issues, guided by member-endorsed policy
  • Represent SRA publicly and in high level meetings, forums and media engagements as a trusted advocate for our members
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with members, funders, government agencies, media, NGOs, regulators, and other partners
  • Support the SRA Executive and Management Committee, ensuring timely reporting, sound governance advice, and implementation of decisions
  • Maintain SRA’s position as an effective and representative voice for Stroke survivors and carers of all ages.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and values-aligned workplace culture
  • Willingness to travel extensively statewide

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and substantial experience in the health welfare and/or disability not-for-profit, government, or community sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of considered evidence-based policy within a complex public policy environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of social and economic issues affecting people affected by Stroke
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and ability to use, or learn to use, content management and project management systems
  • Commitment to social justice, equity and the rights of people who experience chronic health issues and disability after a Stroke

Desirable

  • Experience working collaboratively with people with lived experience of systemic disadvantage, including those who are socially isolated, experience communication and cognitive limitations post Stroke, culturally diverse, or digitally excluded
  • Experience in working with or within member-led organisations
  • knowledge and/or lived experience of Stroke, or experience in membership-based organisations

We’re looking for an experienced executive or senior leader with:

  • Experience in the health, disability, not-for-profit sectors
  • Skills in strategy, advocacy, governance, and financial management
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building abilities
  • Strategic leadership and execution of SRA’s Strategic Plan and future strategies.
  • High-level advocacy to influence policy and secure sustainable funding
  • Effective operational and financial management of a small team including funding oversight.
  • Strong stakeholder relationships with government, health, disability and community sectors.
  • Member services and communications that empower and engage a passionate lived experience community.
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion and the rights of people with a disability and chronic health issues.
