What does the role involve

This newly created position is a key appointment in the context of the organisation’s next phase of growth.  

Reporting to and partnering with the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for driving and optimising the organisation's operational capabilities and effective implementation of the Strategic Plan. 

This role will influence outcomes in all areas of operations, including strategy, human resources, finance, IT, risk, compliance and governance, and manage the implementation of key projects to ensure alignment with and successfully deliver organisational goals and objectives. 

Whilst this could be a short ‘step-up’ for some, we anticipate your core competency within large associations and leadership of related operational functions, combined with the confidence to hit the ground running

What responsibilities form part of this role?

  • Developing and implementing Operational strategy to achieve overarching goals and objectives.
  • Contributing at the executive table to overall business decision-making and strategic options.
  • Managing operational performance (including HR, Legal, Procurement, WHS, IT, and Digital) to deliver organisational goals within budget.
  • Overseeing the implementation of projects and programs and establishing project methodologies and best practices across the organisation.
  • Collaborating with the Leadership Team to develop and implement policies, procedures, and initiatives that enhance operational efficiency
  • Providing dynamic leadership through team engagement support and collaboration across the business.
  • Championing initiatives to drive a respectful, inclusive, highly engaged, high-performance culture that is in line with the values, purpose, and priorities of the Association

Specific skills/qualifications needed

  • At least 5+ years' experience in senior executive and/or leadership roles within large associations. Some commercial experience is preferred.
  • Relevant professional qualifications required and a sound understanding of administration and corporate governance practice
  • Strong understanding of operational processes and the skills to effectively implement systems that support them.
  • High-level leadership, management, communication, and analytical skills with the capacity to implement and support change and deliver results with a member-centred approach
  • Leadership experience across financial, people, and ICT functions, along with a proven history of delivering within budget and with a strong service orientation
  • Strong Project Management skills, experience running multiple multidisciplinary projects, and knowledge of best practice methodologies 
  • Delivered growth in revenue and profit through operational improvements and cost optimisation 
  • Governance and legal experience or exposure
  • Proven track record in building effective and lasting relationships at all levels and with external stakeholders
