The Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) is the peak body and professional membership association for all nurses working outside of a hospital setting in Australia. APNA champions the role of primary health care nurses; to advance professional recognition, ensure workforce sustainability and nurture leadership in health. We provide benefits to the 98,000+ nurses working across all primary health care settings.
OUR VISION is a healthy Australia through best practice primary health care nursing. OUR MISSION is to improve the health of Australians, through the delivery of quality, evidence-based care by a bold, vibrant and well supported primary health care nursing workforce.
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) leads APNA’s core operational functions to ensure the organisation is efficient, aligned and financially sustainable. The role oversees finance, people and culture, business operations, IT, membership operations, CRM, marketing and communications and the PMO. The COO is accountable for building coherent systems and shared ways of working that support APNA’s strategic priorities and reduce duplication and siloed behaviour. The position partners with the CEO and executive team to strengthen culture, embed organisational discipline and ensure APNA operates as One-APNA.

It’s the Gala Awards night – but are your awards truly valued by most of your members?
Most association leaders face a persistent challenge: growing and retaining members. It’s not uncommon to hear stories of
members who join for a year, drop off, and then rejoin two years later. While this cycle may seem harmless, it carries hidden costs—such
as staff time, marketing expenses, onboarding resources, and software overhead—that
can quietly drain your association’s budget.
