An exciting opportunity is available to work with the voluntary Board of the Men’s Shed Association of Victoria, managing a small team of Field Officers, and executing support initiatives that make a significant difference to our Shedder members.
If you are looking for a rewarding role where you are able to make a real difference in the lives of men in our community by promoting and supporting their health and well-being, we would love to hear from you.
The Victorian Men’s Shed Association (VMSA) is the peak not-for-profit organisation supporting men’s sheds in Victoria. Receiving income through State and Federal government funding, grants and fund-raising efforts, the VMSA supports Sheds to realise their potential — to be financially robust, self-sufficient, and safe and welcoming places for men and their guests to congregate. We provide services enabling Sheds to maintain their position as being integral to their community.
The Executive Officer is the most senior VMSA employee and is responsible for the implementation of Board decisions and the overall effective and efficient management of the organisation. The Executive Officer operates under the direction of the VMSA Board Chair and the VMSA Board.
Responsibilities include:
• Providing guidance and support on the development of new sheds, building the capacity of existing sheds and developing relationships and links between men’s sheds.
• Preparing and delivering presentations to various community groups on behalf of the VMSA.
• Developing funding opportunities and submissions.
• Overseeing the content and maintenance of the VMSA website, social media and monthly newsletters.
• Collating, analysing and reporting on relevant research and policy of interest to the VMSA Board and members.
• Liaising with other organisations in the delivery of programs to VMSA member sheds.
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced manager with a strong background in community development and will also possess:
• Relevant tertiary qualification(s).
• Financial literacy, and responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the budget including staff payroll, accounts payable and receivables, and banking procedures including the payment of bills.
• Exceptional interpersonal, negotiating, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of the operation of men’s sheds.
• Understanding of governance of not-for-profit organisations.
• Experience in establishing partnerships and obtaining sponsorship and grants.
• A current driver’s licence and preparedness to travel for work across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria.
• A fixed term, full-time role.
• Salary appropriate to skills and experience.
• Interesting work in and around our community.
Your application should include a cover letter detailing your fit for the role and what you can offer to the VMSA and to our Shed members.
Questions about the role or the recruitment process, and applications, can be directed to the Chair of the VMSA Board:

The membership fee strategy is not an accounting exercise. It is a leadership decision. And if your Board is setting fees based on what feels comfortable rather than what the organisation needs, you are already behind.
